The $336-million redevelopment and expansion of the 4.8-ha (12-acre) New Jersey Performing Arts Center (NJPAC) campus in Newark, N.J., will enrich the city’s artistic landscape.

One of the largest performing arts centers in the United States, the NJPAC master plan consists of two projects under this expansion: ArtSide and the Chambers Plaza redevelopment.

ArtSide is a new mixed-use, mixed-income residential building designed by Skidmore, Owings & Merrill (SOM). It will include residential units, offices, retail, and cultural spaces.

The Chambers Plaza project includes rebuilding NJPAC’s front entrance and adding Essex County Green, a four-season urban outdoor park.

Construction firm Turner Construction completed the original NJPAC facility in 1997 and is now further expanding the campus to enhance the city’s cultural and residential infrastructure.
